Double blind randomized drug study looking at the effect of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS), and inflammation on atrial fibrillation. Duties include: Obtaining and processing blood samples from patients in the OR during surgery, obtaining Intra-operative data, database data entry, and obtaining and freezing Atrial Appendage tissue samples for protein and RNA analysis. Duties also include doing ELIZA assays on samples that include tPA, Pai-1, CRP, and BNP assays. Also did PCR reactions for genotyping and preparation for Sequencing. Designed and implemented a sample bar coding and computer aided sample tracking system for multiple studies samples within the lab Brian S. Donahue, MD, PhD lab. Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology, Department of Anesthesiology. Duties included: Explaining and obtaining consent of patients for blood draws for the Vanderbilt Cardiac Surgery Registry. Obtaining and processing Blood samples from the patients in the OR. Some lab work on ELIZA assays and very little PCR.

- How do you feel about Health Care Reform?Well, its about time we did something but i feel it not enough not is it happening as quick as it should. We as a industrialized nation really need to remember that Health is a basic human right and it is the Governments responsibility to protect its citizens, even form disease. Does that mean socialized health care? Maybe, maybe not. But it does mean that all of us need access that will not cause is to be broke, owe tremendous debt, or prevent us from getting the necessary preventive treatments. Speaking of preventative treatments, maybe that is the best thing the Government can do. Provide the education, legislation and preventive medicine programs to help reduce the load on the current health care system.Asked by kristin Oct 23, 10
